If you are looking to improve your posture, reduce neck and shoulder pain, or simply get a stronger upper back, then you are in the right place. In this video, we will cover the anatomy and function of one of the most important muscles in your back, followed by some of the best exercises to target and strengthen this area.

The muscle we’re talking about in this video is the trapezius; specifically the lower and middle trapezius. The trapezius muscle is a large diamond-shaped muscle that spans the upper back and neck. It is divided into three sections: the upper, middle, and lower trapezius.

WHY STRENGTHEN THE TRAPEZIUS MUSCLE
The main function of the middle trapezius muscles is to pull the shoulder blades together and the main function of the lower trapezius is to pull your shoulder blades down. This not only straightens up our posture, but puts our shoulder in a much better position to move from. The result is less shoulder impingement and tendonitis.

HOW TO STRENGTHEN THE LOWER TRAPS AND MIDDLE TRAPS
Any exercise you perform that pulls the shoulder blades together and down will activate the middle and lower trap muscles. You can do these exercises easily at home with no equipment needed; here are the best exercises to do it:
