Charity's Soliloquy from "Sweet Charity"

Once again the hapless, but always hopeful, Charity Hope Valentine, played by 17 year old Rebecca "Becca" Sara Wolonick in the Pinecrest Players (Pinecrest High School, Southern Pines, NC) February 2012 presentation of "Sweet Charity." In this scene she pours her heart out to the other dance hostesses at the Fan-Dango ballroom. She has just had her life savings stolen from her by another boyfriend, but she's going to find her way back. For Charity, there is always hope. Charity is joined at the dance bar by the other hapless members of the ensemble, who have their own hopes and aspirations, as they listen to her belt out her future and dance her way to a new and better life. Marvin, her Tango partner, is played by Eli Cole. As Charity pronounces to the police in scene 1, her temporary employment has lasted for eight years. The production was directed by acting teacher, Adam W. Faw, and the music was directed by Erin Plisco. On the big screen, Charity was played by the great Shirley MacLaine, and the show is from the book by Neal Simon. It is based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini entitled "Nights of Cabiria." The music is by Cy Coleman, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and it was originally conceived, staged and choreographed by Bob Fosse. The choreography for this presentation was by Gary Taylor and Yaqshaan Medan, with supplementary choreography by Becca Wolonick herself.
