Why Hugs are Crucial for Survival and Growth

This quote in the video, from marriage and family therapist Virginia Satir, may not be backed by science, but it rings true to our intuition. However, science does show us the numerous benefits of hugs.

Did you know that touch is the first sense to develop in the womb? Hugs release oxytocin, the hormone responsible for stress relief, bonding, and reducing anxiety. They also lower heart rate, promote the growth of brain cell connections, increase immunity, and act as a natural painkiller by releasing endorphins, the feel-good hormone.

Hugs are a powerful tool for improving our well-being, whether it be with partners, kids, relatives, friends, pets, or even self-hugs. As one of my favorite biohacks, hugs are not only free, but also without any contradictions.
