How to easily read labels on keto

Reading modern labels can be a daunting task, comparable to deciphering logosyllabic Maya writing.

But I will now teach you the basics of this process.

1. Description length. If it's 3 lines of small print or more, decryption is generally not important. This is a heavily processed product, even if each of the ingredients is keto.
2. Look for the line with added sugar. Anything more than zero - cross it out.
3. Look for stop words. There's a lot of garbage in the world, and manufacturers are quite cunning. But usually it's: sugar, dextrose, maltodextrin, glucose, syrup (agave, for example), dates, dry milk or lactose, sucralose, starch, soy, sunflower oil, carrageenan. If you see the word - put the product back on the shelf.
4. Look at the total carbohydrates. They are usually listed per 100 g or per serving. If per serving, this is often a trap. Few can stop at 2 candies or a quarter bag of chips. Well, only very strong-willed people, I'm not familiar with any. Remember math and translate numbers into real language.
5. Look at the total carbohydrates and fiber again. Subtract the second from the first to get the amount of digestible carbohydrates in the product. If there are sugar alcohols (erythritol) or allulose - subtract them too. On keto, we have 20-30 g per day. Decide for yourself if you can afford 10 g from a lonely cookie.
