Ippudo Ramen and Hong Kong Night Markets - vlog #053

Today I'll be visiting a few so called popular tourist places to visit in Hong Kong. Well according to google anyways, honestly most of the markets here sell similar things like clothing, souvenirs, toys, trinkets, so if you visit one of them you'll experience what it is like at most of them. If you are already in Mong Kok and want to drop by, you could quickly walk through these markets just to take a look. The first place that I visited was the Ladies Market on Tung Choi Street, there are many makeup shops near here and many vendors that sell clothings, toys, and souvenirs. A few blocks down is the Hong Kong Pet Street (Wangjiao Pet Street) which has many vendors selling pets. Unless you live here, you probably won't be buying a pet.

Over on the next street is Fa Yuen Street, which in my opinion is better then the first two places. Fa Yuen Street has a huge outdoor market and is quite spacious so you can freely walk around. Above the Fa Yuen Street Market there is a pedestrial walkway, where you can take some nice photos and videos of the market. The view is quite nice, I highly recommend it! There are also quite a few restaurants and street vendors around. If you want to buy groceries there are many produce, seafood, and butchers nearby.Nearby this area is Fei Jie 肥姐小食店 which serves a variety of skewers from octopus, kidneys, and intestines for various animals. There are many shops that serve similar items to Fei Jei, but this place is one of the better ones. Although presentation wise my skewers looked better at Fat Boy, Fei Jei has really tasty skewers.

On Fa Yuen Street there is a bakery called Ki Tsui Cake Shop 奇趣餅家. I only sampled one of their baked goods which was the Siu Beng. They have a bunch traditional baked goods here. Honestly I didn't know what this was until I ate it haha, but it tasted very similar to hotteok or banh cam. The red bean inside is slightly sweet and the texture is smooth, while the outside batter was slightly chewy like mochi. I really enjoyed it and it was really cheap too! I also found out that this shop is now recommended on the Hong Kong Michelin guide.

For dinner I'll be heading to Ippudo located in Central. Ippudo is a ramen chain from Japan, and they have many locations worldwide. I've been tothe locations in NYC and one in Tokyo and know that each location has a different menu. Hong Kong has a really unique menu and has many items from other Ippudo locations around the world. The food here was pretty good at Ippudo, however I feel that after coming from Tokyo, the other ramen shops over there are way better. For me even the Ippudo location in Tokyo that I visited was just okay, my favorite Ippudo location is still in NYC.
