Ippudo Ramen and Curry House CoCo Ichibanya in Japan - vlog #031 part 2

This is part 2 of vlog #031 and we're heading to two other famous chains in Japan. The first one is Ippudo Ramen and the second is Curry House CoCo Ichibanya in Japan. Ippudo Ramen has franchises all over the world and I have been to two of the NYC locations. Today I'll finally be able to taste it in Japan.

Ippudo 博多一風堂 in Japan specializes in tonkotsu pork broth ramen. I made a mistake in ordering my ramen and didn't realize that there were "Special" bowl versions of the ramen. The "Special" version I think comes with all the toppings and I missed out on the egg and Seaweed. If you don't mess up like me, the "Special Version" or the set menu which includes gyoza and ramen is a pretty good deal.

Ippudo Ramen is a solid choice for Ramen and I enjoyed the noodles and broth better than Ichiran's, however I liked how Ichiran gave you more chasu. The price that you are paying for Ippudo is much cheaper than Ichiran's ramen once you factor in topping prices. I do have to say though, I still prefer the NYC Ippudo locations over the Japanese & Hong Kong locations. The menu at NYC is much larger and has options for vegetarians as well.

The second restaurant that we are visiting is Curry House CoCo Ichibanya ‎カレーハウスCoCo壱番屋, which is a famous curry chain in Japan. My friend highly recommended that I eat here, and I wasn''t disappointed. The curry here is very good and the amount of options that they have on the menu is endless. It was hard for me to just pick 1 thing off their menu haha. The portion sizes are large and the price is relatively cheap around $10 USD for most options. You can customize your curry's spiciness level here from 1-10. I got a 5 and it was really spicy, for you brave souls that want to try lvl 10 heat, I wish you the best of luck.

Throughout my trip in Tokyo, I've eaten at many ramen locations and discovered numerous styles and types of broth created for ramen. Ichiran/Ippudo makes a really good tonkotsu ramen, however I do not think it is the best ramen in Tokyo. Ichiran/Ippudo is the type of place where I would recommend anyone who hasn't had ramen before to eat there to try. Although these ramen styles and broths differ, I would recommend eating at the following below as the next level ups to ramen on your ramen adventures. I'll cover these ramen places in upcoming videos!

- Mugi to Olive (also known as Ginza Noodles) - Clam Ramen - Located in Ginza - https://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1301/A130101/13164932/

- Tsuta Ramen - 1st 1 Michelin Star Ramen - Located in Tsugamo - https://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1323/A132301/13136231/

- Menya Itto - Numerous medals for top restaurant/ramen - Located in Higashishinkoiwa - https://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1312/A131204/13111737/

The reviews and awards change on tabelog every year, however after visiting more than 30+ restaurants on my trip I can assure you that tabelog's reviews are pretty accurate.
