This second video shows one way to customize in leather the frontal/horn plastic piece/cover of a non-airbag, two spoke steering wheel (first course video). It was necessary to do some adjustments to let the plastic cover its up and down tilting movement for horn device.
The video also shows a way of skiving in an slanted/angled level to not leave marks on top. The ends of plastic cover were also sanded off.
A mold was done by using a 'stretchy cheap vinyl' then transfered to leather material.
I have used 'two tricks' to glue the leather material down to the plastic piece: First way is the traditional 'paste and let it dry' very useful in parts we do not want to unstick or disassemble. Second way I have used over the top is the 'wet glue method' which helps to slide the material over the plastic and give us some time to put the material in the desired place. The glue is penetrated and absorbed into the fibers of leather material anyway...so do not worry! Do a test before applying this procedure! I'd recommend this procedure on flat parts which are not prone to some tension that could cause unsticking.
I hope you find this video useful!
