As mentioned in a previous video the making of bags is also part of general upholstery and a car trimmer should be capable of manufacturing one for his own liking or for a business purpose.
It is curious how general upholstery involves the wrapping/making of different items using different materials such as foam, vinyls, leathers, etc. There are upholsterers who are specialized in the making of bags, others in motorcycle seats, mattresses, curtains, carpets, dashboards, home furniture, etc. Each specialty makes a way of living, a way of generating an income.
Some of them are lucky to master all of these techniques that our craft embraces. But we can choose the field we like to do mostly.
I personally like a lot the wrapping of car seats and the making of bags has helpsed me to create similar accessories that would be part of a car seat. As we can see, the basic sewings are also applied on these items too.
This time I did not want to resort to skiving techniques when working with leather material. The 1.2 mm thick leather I am working with is sturdy and I would not recommend you for the making of bags.
To make the sewing process easier I would have skived the welting strip to 8 mm thick, all the edges or seam allowances to also 8mm thick.
If really interested in making bags in leather I would recommend the use of a soft and pliable leather no more than 1 mm thick.
I hope you find useful tips in this video!
