Once again, I want to share some tips I used to reupholster a motorcycle seat in full grain leather. Full grain (not corrected, just ironed) leather means its surface is natural showing the different imperfections it has such as a cattle brand, natural pores, some scars, etc.
In fact this full finished pigmented leather could be classified as automotive leather because it has a transparent sealer (lacquer) on top (2 to 3 coats) to add protection against malignant agents such as UV sun rays, humidity, driver's daily rubbing, etc. A damp cloth could be useful to wipe it off and keep it clean.
This leather was aniline dyed through in black, related to the black pigment on top (5 to 6 coats) to make it more durable. If some scratch over on top, no problem underneath because it has the same color.
Our customer requested the same design and he got the leather material to his own liking. Actually, it was not an easy task to work with leather if we would have not followed the techniques we teach in our basic courses and our door panel course. Much of the process is similar to the vinyl working process though.
The red stitching added the last touch to the design. Fortunately, our customer was really happy when he saw his new seat reupholstered.
I expect that after watching the video you find the different shown tips useful. Besides lots of inspiration to perform your own upholstery projects!
