Sometimes, car upholsterers find it a little difficult to sew a boxing panel down to the edge of a bigger top panel because the raised foamed channels are too bulky.
This issue can be solved if we use a special presser foot for the specific purpose.
I made up my mind to make one handmade. In fact, it has made the sewing process easier.
To demonstrate the presser feet work out well I have prepared a sample in vinyl with raised pleats 1.7 cm high. One layer (7 mm thick) of Eva/latex foam at the bottom and a layer (10 mm) of medium density foam on top.
The front and rear feet have a 'flap' on their left side that helps to flatten the bulky material aside while the needle is sewing. These flaps replace our fingers while flatten the material.
A left side zipper foot could be useful for not so high channels. As the needle runs free close to the 'channel side ' there is a risk of needle rubbing and tearing of material.
At the beginning of the video I also show a handmade narrow presser feet which freely run in the deep channel bottom.
I hope you find this video useful and above all lot of inspiration!
