These simple 'tips' would help us understand something about the upholstery sewing process. A straight edge vinyl piece is sewn to an irregular edge vinyl piece. As we can see, the straight piece is manipulated over the irregular piece following curved and angled seams.
Of course, we could do it the other way. I meant, the straight piece below and the irregular one on top. But, it is advisable to place the straight edge piece over. In my point of view, it would be easier to maneuver.
