3 Brothers Hid 1,200 People In A Forest For Years. The Nazis Never Found Them

Tuvia, Zus, and Asael Bielski were Jewish brothers from a small village in Belarus who, after their parents were killed by the Nazis in 1941, fled into the surrounding forests and formed an armed partisan group. Rather than only fighting, the brothers made it their mission to take in any Jewish refugee who found them, regardless of age or ability to fight, eventually growing into a hidden forest community that built workshops, a school, and a makeshift hospital deep in the woods. By the time the region was liberated, the group had sheltered and protected more than twelve hundred people, making it one of the largest rescue operations carried out by Jews themselves during the entire war.
