World's Steepest Zipline & Sarangkot Sunrise | Pokhara, Nepal

Another day of adventure in Pokhara, Nepal. This time it's a trip to Highground Adventures on Sarangkot Hill to do the world's steepest zipline and their Sky Screamer swing.

Sarangkot is better known for it's viewpoint and is a must see attraction if you're visiting Pokhara. A pre-dawn start and a $5 cable car ride to the top, followed by a short walk up to the viewpoint. Wrap up warm though, the temperatures are pretty darn cold! We were lucky because the previous few days had been cloudy, but that morning we had great views of the Annapurna range.

From Pokhara, the most striking mountain is 'The Fishtail' (Machapuchare) at 6,993m. It's not dissimilar to the Matterhorn in Switzerland, albeit set within a much larger mountain range. We also had really good views of the famous Dhaulagiri as well as the various Annapurna peaks, illuminated by an incredible sunrise.

Once the sun was up and after a quick coffee, I walked around 1km to the 'Zipflyer'. You can book through Highground Adventures in Lakeside or through just about any agent. It's not cheap at 8000 Nepalese Rupees ($60 USD or £50), but you also get a 10% discount if you book the bungee or Sky Screamer as well.

The zipline itself is 1.8km long and has a vertical drop of 600m with a 56 degree angle. You reach top speeds of 140kph (87mph) and get some great views of the valley and mountains. Honestly, it's all over very quickly and whilst it is fun, it's quite a lot of money for what it is!

I only booked the Sky Screamer swing because it cost me about £6 with the discount. I wasn't expecting much from a 50m swing but it actually had a decent amount of freewill and whilst I wouldn't go there just to do the Sky Screamer, it was much better than I thought it would be.

You can also bungee jump off an 80m platform, though I didn't book that.

Finally, they offer lifts back to Lakeside because you end up on the other side of Sarangkot Hill.

Would I recommend it? For the price it wasn't for me, though I'm not all that fussed about these sorts of adrenaline activities. I think if you are into that stuff you'll probably enjoy it a lot more than I did - though I'd rather put the nearly £60 towards another activity considering how many options you have in Pokhara.
