A long day back to Lukla | EBC Trek Day 11

Final day of the everest base camp trek, from Namche Bazaar all the back to Lukla. It's another long day with around 1000m of descent, followed by the final 400m in elevation back up to Lukla.

Interestingly, because it was the day after Christmas, there was noticeably more people on the trail. We reckon that it was because of the holiday period so if you are able to go before Christmas you may end up with less crowded days.

My guide Ganesh had warned me that the last day was in fact one of the harder days. The climb up to Lukla is a fairly relentless one, taking around 3-4 hours. He wasn't wrong! Perhaps it was just the general wear and tear, but whilst you're not breathing hard or having to take multiple breaks, it is a long and tiring day.

We stopped near Jorshalle for a quick dip in the river and had lunch before just getting on with the day.

Getting back to Lukla meant that it was the first opportunity to go to a cafe/bar and get a burger and a beer which was a welcome change from the fairly average food that you eat in the tea houses.

All that was left was to wait for the morning and pray that there wasn't bad weather so that lights in and out of Lukla were running.
