First timer at Swimrun | ÖTILLÖ Engadin, Switzerland

What is Swimrun? Good question - I'd never heard of it before but apparently it's a fast growing sport where, you guessed it, you swim and you run.
You might be forgiven for thinking that Swimrun was like a triathlon without the bike, but it's a little different. Instead of a single swim and a single run, there are multiple stages of varying distance. As such, the rules are a little different. You swim in your trainers, you can use hand paddles or pull buoys, or both, and you run in a Swimrun specific wetsuit.
I believe ÖTILLÖ are the pioneering company here and it all originated as an adventure sport in the Swedish archipelagos, swimming and running from shore to shore, little island to little island.
Much like the trail race in South Africa, we figured that it was a good event to try out. Mainly because it takes you to places that you may never have thought to go. This time it was in a place called Silvaplana for the ÖTILLÖ swim run World Series - though as a first timer we decided to go for the shorter sprint distance.
It takes a little getting used to because running straight off the swim can leave you feeling a little dizzy. You also have to figure out how you're going to carry your pull buoy, paddles, goggles and swim cap. Plus the water was freezing so I'd recommend going for some arm warmers or a full sleeve wetsuit.
I didn't manage to film a wrap up but suffice to say that the event was well organised, the scenery was great (albeit with steep elevation on the run!) and it meant that we got to spend a long weekend in the Swiss alps.
