The cost of UK hotel quarantine is a joke.

First of all, this one is a bit of a rant. If you don't want to listen to someone complain for 15 minutes, I suggest you go elsewhere.
I recently had to book hotel quarantine in order to enter the UK, on the basis that I had connected in an airport which was in a red list country. I had started my journey in an 'amber' country.
To be clear, I have no real problem with hotel quarantine rules. After all, governments are having to deal with a widespread issue and protect their populations.
The issue I do have is the price and the justification.
It cost me £1750 ($2410 USD) for 10 nights. That's not been increased to £2285 ($3100 USD)......to stay in a Holiday Inn. Just outside London Heathrow. To provide some perspective, rooms in a Holiday Inn are usually anywhere between £40 and £80 per night. The UK government recently increased the price of hotel quarantine to better reflect the costs. Now, I certainly don't have all the information and may well have this completely wrong, but from the way it was run there really doesn't seem to be justification for anywhere near the price.
To summarise:
1. You're paying 3 to 4 times the price that you would usually pay for this type of room
2. The UK have opened up a lot of restrictions, which makes it feel like this policy has lagged behind the rest of the government's policy.
3. The logistics is shambolic. Literally back of a napkin organisation. If that's what we're paying for then it puts a whole new meaning on the public sector being incredibly inefficient and utilising money. It's definitely not going into the food that you're given every day!
If it was a more reasonable price it would be fine. By the looks of things, I'm not the only one that feels this way. Recently there was a lawsuit brought against the government on this - not quite on price but on another reason. Nevertheless, it's problematic.
Again, I don't have all the information. I don't make policies and there's a lot that I probably don't have visibility on. All I know is what I saw, how people were treated and how much it all cost. It's hard to see how it's not all a big mess.
Rant over.
