Westfield Bondi reflection day ‘not about retail trade but paying respects’

Scentre Group Chief Executive Elliott Rusanow says Westfield Bondi Junction’s reflection day is “not about retail trade” but about paying respects to victims of the mass stabbing.

Mr Rusanow announced the centre will be reopening on Friday.

He said the reflection day aims to pay respects to victims and to help the community “feel comfortable” returning to the shopping centre.

“As we reopen for retail trade on Friday, we’re continuing that quiet setting … in a way which allows the community to come back and feel safe,” he said during a media conference on Wednesday.

“But also recognise the important role Westfield Bondi plays in the community.”
