‘There’s always a clean up’: Alice Springs made to look ‘peaceful’ before PM’s arrival
Shadow Indigenous Australians Minister Jacinta Price says “there’s always a clean up” when a significant dignitary attends Alice Springs.
Her comments come as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to visit the Northern Territory town, which is still being plagued by a youth crime crisis.
“Police are doing a sweep to make sure the town is cleaned up,” Ms Price told Sky News Australia.
“So we haven’t returned to those horrific scenes yet.
“Although every time we go to bed at night, every bump in the night, you wake up thinking ‘Is that somebody breaking into my household this time?’ – This is how locals live here.
“The Prime Minister’s coming, so the town is made to look like it’s peaceful, and there’s not much going on.”
