Airforce Pararescue Training

The United States Air Force is famous for its fighter and bomber pilots, but that isn’t the only job out there. One of the toughest is being in the Air Force’s Pararescue or PJ unit. The PJ unit, which is part of Air Force Special Warfare, is assigned with one of the toughest tasks in the military – saving comrades from hostile or otherwise unreachable areas, bringing them home, and nursing them back to health.
PJs must be expert parachutists, of course, but they also need to be experienced scuba divers and rock climbers, be able to swim 500 meters underwater, and other tough physical requirements so they can operate virtually anywhere on Earth.
Beyond basic training, Parerescuers must take Special Warfare courses including diving and airborne, extreme survival training, and EMT training.
The PJs’ motto is “That Others May Live.” With such training, they’re prepared to go anywhere to fulfill it.
