This Weapon Is A Game Changer in Naval Warfare
The MK-38. a single barrel, 25mm self-defense weapon system installed in ships as protection against high-speed maneuvering surface targets, like Fast Attack Crafts, patrol boats, floating mines, and other shore-based targets.
First used by U.S. troops during Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield, MK 38s are still temporarily installed on Coast Guard and Navy in a rotatable pool.
In 2003, the first upgrades were made, with the Mod 2 having 180 rpm, Electronic Optical Sight, advanced fire control system, and a Tactical Laser System.
The MK 38 Mod 3 came with even more enhancements, like 500 ready rounds of ammo on the mount, electro-optical/infrared sensors that provide 330-degree surveillance from 3 fields of view.
The Mod 3 can also be remotely operated and is unique from other naval systems in that its surveillance and weapon systems move separately, making detection more difficult.
