Sustainable solutions for reduction in water distribution network losses in India. - Vijay Kumar

Water loss reduction and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) are critical issues that affect water availability, quality, and cost. Despite efforts to reduce NRW, the problem remains significant in India due to a lack of proper implementation and monitoring. The major problems are,

1. Intermittent Supply
2. Lack of awareness
3. Lack of knowledge (Engineers do not know where to start? and how to proceed?)
4. Lack of data and data updation in GIS platform
5. No-proper hydraulic modelling of the network and its calibration.
6. Poor water loss reduction program (Non – availability of Active leakage Control)
7. Lack of support from Public and other stockholders.
8. Improper administration
9. Lack of knowledge about Leakage deduction equipment.
10. Poor workmanship
11. Inadequate data from survey. Etc
12. Poor Infrastructure and lack of asset management.

In this presentation, we will discuss the shortfalls on the ground, including inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, and poor management practices that contribute to high NRW levels. We will discuss in detail about the sustainable NRW reduction implementation from the scratch. Hopefully which will provide the guidelines to the Engineers.

We will also explore sustainable solutions to reduce water loss and NRW reduction, such as improving metering and billing systems, deduction of leaks, implementing the right technologies, monitoring of flow and pressure and solution to the water supply board who are having less budget. Additionally, we will discuss the importance of community engagement and capacity building to ensure the sustainability of these solutions.

The presentation will be prepared based on the ground reality in Indian cities.
