🔸For this demonstration I am using a post bed, triple transport, twin needle Durkopp&Adler 268-FA-273 industrial sewing machine
Sometimes the French seams need a backing as reinforcement on the reverse side. This attachment is of great help to make the sewing process easier. My machine did not have one.
🔸After having no success trying to find a new or used piece in local stores I made up my mind in order to make one myself.
In fact it is a kind of buckle with three rectangular open slots where the backing strip runs over and through. These grooves make the strip kind of tense to keep it straight while the sewing process.
As we can see it was not a big deal to make it out of a piece of iron sheet (1/16" thick).
🔸A milling operator can perfectly make a flawless one for us.
Any thin elastic vinyl is useful to make the backing strips. The backing strip I show in the video is 2.3 mm wide, because I like to use the metric system. The slots should measure the same to make the strip keep a straight position. Above all the first one on top close to the presser feet.
🔸I hope you find some inspiration in this video!
