Why Training Pronation Requires "Sense" of Supination
Gait requires pronation and supination. But sometimes we lose the ability to pronate and supinate appropriately, but it has nothing to do with the need for orthotics, it's due to the Postural Restoration Institute defined left AIC pattern.

The only way you know anything is through comparison. "Big" requires "small", "tall" requires "short" and "pronation" requires "supination". Otherwise pronation has no meaning.
The action of pronation must come from a state of supination. Pronation can't come from a state of pronation. A foot can't pronate if it's already in a state of pronation. So pronation "sense" requires sense of supination so that your brain can know that a change occurred.
So when trying to train pronation, it requires supination, too. Or it requires the opposite foot and opposite side of the body doing something else. That's how humans move, through alternating side-to-side movement. When one side does one thing, the other side does the other thing.
Luckily, in most PRI techniques, pronation is automatically trained because two sides of the body are doing different things. The right foot is generally being sensed in a state of pronation via the right medial arch, while the left foot is being sensed in state of supination and pronation, but with awareness of the heel.
