Chevy Bolt EV Recall: Software Update + 2017 Bolt Guidance

Battery replacements are well underway and the updates on the Chevy Bolt EV recall keep on coming. New software from GM is a partial remedy that helps some but might not suit everyone, while the acceleration of pack replacements in the 2017 Bolt EV population brings a new item for owners to watch for.

Our last update of the year on this topic looks at all of those items, offers a few practical tips for owners still awaiting their Bolt EV battery pack replacement, and shares why we don't intend to get GM's new software in our 2020 Bolt.

***ADDITION: All owners getting a replacement pack should also confirm dealers will perform a "vacuum-assisted bleed" and refill of the battery coolant system. A few owners have reported low coolant levels and a need to return to the dealership for this action after their Bolt displayed a "Service: High Voltage Charging System" warning.***
