Public EV Charging: Etiquette and Challenges at the Plug

Out to lunch in the suburbs north of Boston, MA, I decided to swing by a couple of local ChargePoint and EVgo sites to see how they were being used (and pass summary judgement on breaches of public ev charging etiquette).

Over the last 18 months, I've noticed significantly increased usage of both the level 2 and DCFC spaces, thanks to increased adoption of cars like the all-electric Tesla Model 3, Chevy Bolt EV, and the updated Nissan Leaf. This is obviously great news for electric vehicle advocates but it presents challenges to charging networks and property managers planning EVSE installations, as well as the ongoing question of EV charging etiquette and how to make best use of the limited plugs available.

I have a follow up to this one planned as some of the sites are changing and new L2 locations will be springing up soon, but this short selection of clips shows what you can expect to see as you seek out a plug, at least in the Greater Boston area!

Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe for more vids covering every aspect of driving electric.
