DC Fast Charging for EVs: Signs of East Coast Progress

According to Deloitte, the primary US consumer concern around EVs in 2020 switched from the price premium to uncertainty over EV charging infrastructure (up to 29% in 2020, from 22% in 2018). As the West Coast continues to be blanketed with DC fast charging options, there are also signs of life for East coast EV charging as the year draws to a close.

This video takes a quick look at two new site additions south of Boston,, MA, that will bring a busy stretch of Interstate up from dated 25 kW charging to multiple options up to 150 kW. With stations from two different networks in the ground and likely to be activated by early 2021, this area shows signs of progress that are increasingly common in the Northeast US: high-powered stations going in with multiple stations to avoid congestion. It's not quite Supercharger status yet (more on that soon!), but things are looking up just as many new non-Tesla EVs hit the market.

We also have a quick note on the Chevy Bolt EV recall, as some owners have reported their early results with the temporary fix from GM. Jump to 2:10 for that, or watch the full video for the original announcement details: https://youtu.be/T3251erQAbU.

From Oklahoma to Alabama, to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (almost!) and along both coasts, we're starting to see everyone from the top networks to state-funded initiatives adding to the public DC fast charging map. Do you think that the right priorities are being addressed with this expansion, or are some key areas still not getting the attention they deserve? Feel free to share your local observations and glaring omissions down in the comments!
