Game Changer: Erwin Football

The Erwin football team has been one of the best in the state all season long. The Warriors have shown tremendous athleticism and discipline in all every facet of the game. As Luke Notestine found out, the true Game Changers at Erwin may be the coaches. Erwin has done a lot of things quickly this season. The Warriors have scored 481 points in nine games. Mike Sexton says, We have good athletes, but for them to be great, they have to do the little things. All those little things have led to big results for the Warriors. A perfect 9-0 record with great balance in all aspects of the game. According to the players, the coaching staff should get a lot of the credit. Aaron Marquez says, Coach Sexton is a great coach. He really cares about you. Most coaches will teach you the game, but Coach Sexton is like a second father to us. Rodney Pruett says, There's not a better man than Coach Sexton. Not just the players, but he makes the coaches better. The numbers that this Erwin football team have put together have been off the charts. 52 points per game to go along with a shutdown defense. When you talk to the players and coaches, you get a sense that it's way more than just about the numbers. It's about being a family and sticking together no matter what.Mike Sexton says, It is great to see this group pull together. They do play for one another. They get excited when someone makes a big play. They are accountable for one another.Rodney Pruett says, As coaches, we wear many hats. Guidance counselor, social worker, mother, father, aside from the coaching aspect. Erwin is off this week, then will end the regular season at Asheville on Friday, November 8th.
