Moving Fire Station
A Mountain Fire Chief wants to move one of his fire stations to a new location.
Chief Tim Garren of the Valley Hill Fire District in Henderson County says moving Station 2 in the Crab Creek Community will improve response times and save homeowners thousands of dollars in insurance. Garren says the plan is to move the fire house two miles down the road.
"Current Station 2 was built in 1992...it fit the geographical area of that time," Garren said. "But...to meet these growing demands...we need to move it out a little bit."
Garren said the move will put all homes and businesses within the Valley Hill Fire District within a 6 mile driving distance of a fire station. Garren says the proximity will qualify home owners for reduced insurance premiums.
"This move would put them in a fire insurance district and save them money year after year," he said.
Chief Garren says building the new fire station is still in the planning stages. He estimates it will cost about $1 million. Garren says after the new station is built, they will sell the current station and use that money to pay off the new one.
