Rutherford County Teen Killed
A 19 year-old man from Rutherfordton is hit and killed at the foot of his driveway, early Sunday morning on Allen Street.
Investigators say Jaharri Miller was laying in the roadway when the car ran over him. Right now, they're trying to figure out why.
Family and friends we spoke with say it doesn't make sense.
Christy Miller, mother, "I was asleep and Deontae came and woke me up. When me and my husband went to the bottom of the driveway my son was under the car."
It all happened just a few hundred feet away from his home. Miller's 15 year old brother, Deontae was riding in the car that hit him. He says he misses his big brother.
Deontae Miller, brother, "he was a good guy. He made everybody smile. When he was down he made people smile. He would do anything."
Police say the driver of the vehicle was a teenage girl.
At the time of the accident investigators believe she didn't see Miller because he was laying in the roadway, but his best friend Shaquille Miller is having a hard time understanding why.
Shaquille Miller, friend, "I mean yeah, he did crazy things to joke around and what not but just couldn't myself, i just can't see him laying in the road."
Detectives think he could have been trying to play a joke, but with so many unanswered questions Miller's loves ones are trying focus on the good times they had with him.
"I can't even get my day started really. It hurts."
"I miss his voice. His smile. There's only one Jaharri."
"I just love my son and I'd do anything to have him back."
Miller's death is still under investigation, no charges have been filed in the case.
