Is Hero's Pose Uncomfortable?

Is Hero's Pose uncomfortable for you? Here's what you can do: ⁠

In a yoga class, use props. If your ankles are bothering you, place a rolled towel, blanket, or second yoga mat under your ankles. ⁠

If your knees are bothering you, place a bolster or a block between the hips and heels to take some of the bend out of the knee. ⁠Here's the bolster I use: https://amzn.to/3bqTrA6.

You can use either or both of these props. ⁠

You'll also need to work on your ankles/knees on your own. Check out the video on feet and ankle stretches here: https://youtu.be/g5lzTysRpts ⁠

For the knees, start with some self-myofascial release on the quadriceps using a foam roller or the Tiger Tail (Get yours here: https://amzn.to/3cuyaFC). Then do a dynamic stretch: From all 4's, rock back and forth, into and out of the stretch. For a static stretch, use a prop under the hips and find the last place where you can relax down into the pose. Work on staying with the stretch in the front of the knees. ⁠

With practice, you'll be able to make the prop smaller. Perhaps you'll eventually sit all the way back on the heels in Hero's Pose. ⁠
