Woodturning Resin Bowl and Sapele Flying Dragon and Castle Silhouette Diorama Resin Art

Woodturning resin bowl in sapele with matching sapele dragon and castle inlaid to the resin river to give a silhouette diorama. The next step in resin art and woodturning; I wanted to see how intricate a design could be floated within the resin and with the matching castle on the reverse side generates the silhouette diorama. Putting a light inside makes the piece come alive. It is better in reality than on video, but hopefully some of the photos intimate just how beautiful this is.

This piece had numerous challenges including hollowing end grain, which led to the dragon flying away at high speed! Thankfully minimal damage to the wood, which was steamed back into shape. There was also a resin casting issue on the castle side due to the low temperature of my workshop, but cast the dragon side indoors, which resolved the bubbles.

There are many alternatives to the materials needed, as advised below. I've been trialing different epoxy resins and for delivery in the UK, the Dipon Epoxyplast 3D B100 is currently the best I've found for pouring up to 10 cm without the need to remove surface bubbles. In the US, the FGCI Superclear 2.0 Liquid Glass has received excellent reviews. Make sure you get some decent epoxy resin for your projects!!
