Woodturning - The Dragon vs Knight

Resin casting a dragon diorama using stencil art shapes cut from sapele wood. The use of stencil art gives greater definition to silhouettes used previously and can generate intricate and beautiful dioramas set in epoxy resin.

This concept is still work in progress and the use of a pressure pot really helps to avoid bubbles in the epoxy resin, but getting the intensity of the alcohol ink is still a challenge. Also using a capped vessel after the initial pour can help eliminate trapped air bubbles too. The curvature of the resin bowl will affect how well the pieces can be positioned close to each other and a little creativity is needed for smaller diameter bowls. Whatever you do, don't forget your mold release otherwise you'll have a battle to get the piece out after casting.

This video shows the steps needed to construct a resin bowl diorama. It might be easier than you think and a potentially good step in woodturning for beginners. Though perhaps one of my earlier videos would be a better stepping stone. Please check out my wood turning resin playlist.
