津波の被害を受けた石巻市(震災翌日)
石巻郊外の田園地帯に車を走らせる取材陣。車窓から見る国道398号線は、いたるところで冠水している。
深い水たまりを走行する車や、水浸しになりながら自転車をこいで通る人もいる。（万石浦・沢田地区 : 朝9時ごろ）
小高い山もほど近い稲井地区に入ると、さらに深刻な津波の被害が、随所で垣間見られる。
積み重なった石材の上に乗った車、電柱と家屋に挟まれ動けない車、車の上に乗り上げた車など。
宅地まで運ばれてきた船なども見られる。(稲井地区 : 朝９時半ごろ)
石巻市内、北上運河の南側では、線路上を歩く住民たちの姿があった。線路下の敷石がところどころ陥没している。
多くの住宅が浸水し、水没した車も数多ある。浸水した家々にも多くの人影が見える。
水で寸断された線路、それを目前に、ぼうぜんとたたずむ住民の姿もあった。(中里地区 : 午前11時ごろ)
ほど近い住宅地に、ブロック塀の倒壊や、陥没し大きな穴が開いた道路など、地震の爪痕が残る。
蛇田浄水場では、給水場が設けられ、水を求めてきた人たちの長い行列があった。(蛇田地区 : 昼12時すぎ)

Reporters drive through the rural areas outside Ishinomaki. Route 398 visible from the car window is immersed in water at every corner. Cars run through deep puddles and cyclists ride through them, being soaked in water. (Mangokuura/Sawada area, around 9 a.m.) Upon entering Inai area, rather close to smaller mountains, a glimpse of serious damage from the tsunami are seen everywhere. A car on top of stacked building stones, a car stuck between an electrical pole and house, a car on top another car... Some boats have been carried to residential areas. (Inai area, around 9:30 a.m.) Local residents walk along the railroad tracks on the southern side of Kitakami canal, where pavement stones under railway tracks have caved in. A number of residences have flooded, and many cars have completely submerged. Human figures are visible in flooded houses. Facing the railroad cut off by the water, residents stand stunned. (Nakasato ward, 11 a.m.) At a nearby residential neighborhood, scars of the earthquake remain, such as the collapse of a block wall, and subsided road with a large hole. At Hebita water filtration plant, a water supply station has been established and long queues of people wait in line. (Hebita area, around noon)
