PRESS RELEASE- August 31st, 2012
The Japanese text is followed by an English translation.
Fuji Television Network, Inc., (Head Office: Minato ward, Tokyo / President and COO: Kou Toyoda) with the cooperation of FNN (Fuji News Network*) is set to launch "Remembering 3/11 -FNN Great East Japan Earthquake Archive-," a video streaming service via Internet on Disaster Prevention Day that is Saturday, September 1st.
The service will be available on two platforms; the FNN website and Fuji TV Official YouTube Channel.
"Remembering 3/11 -FNN Great East Japan Earthquake Archive-" houses a collection of video archives that centers around the Great East Japan Earthquake.
A tragic and unprecedented disaster, the Great East Japan Earthquake spread grievous shock across the globe at the time of its occurrence.
In order to keep its memories alive, to prevent them from wearing thin and to pass on the story to future generations, as well as to heighten conscience and effectively utilize information about present day reconstruction activities and disaster prevention/mitigation, these videos have been reedited and regrouped for anyone and everyone to view at any time through the worldwide web.
Videos are original cut versions of recorded material and include previously unreleased scenes and footage.
It differs from a typical condensed "news clip," so to speak, in that they are kept as recorded, close to its original form as much as possible, regardless of the length of the footage, in telling the story as it happened.
For example, there are clips that captured the earthquake from the moment of its occurrence for several minutes until the shaking stopped, or the tsunami attacking a number of times, wave by wave, over tens of minutes.
While both platforms will be available to view worldwide with descriptions and subtitles in Japanese and English, the official "YouTube" channel will be able to provide additional translations of subtitles through its translation function. As of today, there are translations provided in 54 languages.
A total of 30 videos will be released at the time of initial service launch.
Additional videos will be added sequentially, such as that of life in stricken areas, reconstruction process, or support from overseas, which capture the incident from various angles.
*FNN (Fuji News Network)
With Fuji Television as its key station, FNN News Network is composed of 28 affiliated stations. Its main objective is to mutually share and utilize "News."
