St Abbs Sea Kayaking 'Girl Power' & More Back Rehab

A trip from Coldingham Bay around St Abbs Head to Pettico Wick and return today after little over 14 weeks since my spinal operation.

Six potential paddlers but two having to drop out last thing would leave
Kate, Maureen, Val and I would have what I had described as: A nice gentle paddle in calm conditions. However with a spring tide at maximum speed opposing a light breeze from the North this would push the seas up and make for a really exciting trip!
This trip normally provides lots of options for exploration in calm conditions with caves stacks and narrow gullies. To avoid the larger conditions out on the race I would keep the group closer inshore and use the outer reefs for protection from the swell and rebound, this however would mean we'd need to navigate the exciting gaps between the reefs so timing our passage with swell surge would be crucial.
There would also be a few open stretches with large seas and we definitely encounter the tide race off St Abbs Head.
An exceptional trip as it turned out with everyone giving their best in the sporting conditions and exclamations of the day proving the biggest seas that any of them had ever paddled in !!
A huge well done to you all, an absolutely outstanding performance throughout the entire day. Thanks for the fabulous company, I loved every minute !!
