Longstone Lighthouse by Sea Kayak

The Farne Islands group has always been a great Sea Kayaking favourite of mine as I enjoy paddling its fast tide races and observing the abundant wildlife, from the many seals to a vast array of sea birds that inhabit the area.
Longstone Island is our usual lunch spot where we an relax and take in the awesome views around the many rocky outcrops and islands.
Longstone Lighthouse stands 85 feet tall on Longstone Island in the Farne Island group, lying some 4.5 miles off the beautiful Northumberland coast.
The light was first lit on 15 February 1826 and William Darling moved from the lighthouse on Brownsman Island with his family to become its fist keeper. On 7th September 1838 his daughter Grace spotted the paddle steamer Forfarshire shipwrecked on Big Harcar rocks a nearby rocky island. Grace Darling became famous for her part in the subsequent rescue attempt when it became known to the public.
