SCRITTI POLITTI Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) EXTENDED REMIX

My thanks for Memorylane1980s for posting this Top Of The Pops performance by the British synth pop outfit Scritti Politti and their breakthrough 1984 hit 'Wood Beez' (Pray Like Aretha Franklin). Using an extended remix mp3, I tackled recutting the video, and found it more challenging than I first thought! The remix had significantly altered the structure of the original, but I had lots of fun re-working this funky and infectious retro hit single. After several singles and extended plays and one long player - it was this great song that afforded Scritti Politti its first real chart success - making #10 in Britain, and #25 here in Australia, although i am surprised it didn't chart higher as it received so much airplay and videoplay. Ironically the band would have its only mainstream Billboard hit with a track that missed the Top 40 in their homeland - 'Perfect Way' in 1985. Sadly 'Wood Beez' would be their only chart placing downunder, but in England they scored half a dozen hits. I have another upload to come featuring their late 80's music. Green Garside, the band's Welsh lead singer has one of the most unique voices in pop and their clever use of production made them one of the most accessible and highly regarded pop outfits of the era. My edit is far from perfect, but hopefully it helps shine a light on one of the forgotten classics of the 1980's.
