THE FERRETS Don't Fall In Love

A 'Countdown' phenomenon, thanks to talent co-ordinator and host Ian Meldrum's producing of this band's debut singles and album, "Don't fall in love" was one of the biggest hits in Australia for 1977 (#16 in the Top 100 songs of that year). It entered the charts in early August and rose to #2, spending nearly 6 months selling singles and receiving plenty of radio and tv exposure. Even before having achieved a #2 smash hit, the band had been recording a debut album, but it took way too long to produce and although eventually went gold, the group struggled to follow it up. 'Janie May' with its Beatle-esque vibe, was a minor hit towards the end of 1977, and was featured on the RCA Compilation 'Ripsnorter' and is on my channel also.

Originally 'Don't fall in love' was issued as the B side to another track: "Lies", but the performances of the former song on Countdown were so popular, that the releases were flipped and the track rose to #1 in Victoria, and then it took off right around the country. The Ferrets album 'Dreams Of A Love' when it finally was released later in 1977 was according to Wikipedia, not credited to Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, as its original producer, but in reference to how long the process took, the band attributed the opus to 'Willie Everfinish'!
Cute....
