TANIA BOWRA Heaven & Earth

The late 1980's were an incredible time in Australia for women artists. Renee Geyer and Marcia Hines paved the way for the next generation and Kiwi Jenny Morris and Sharon O'Neill shone a bright light on the culture proving the women were just as much a force to be reckoned with as the blokes. The rise of many bands with female leads was significant too. Eurogliders (Grace Knight), Divinyls (Chrissie Amphlett), Dugites (Lynda Nutter), I'm Talking (Kate Ceberano) and Wendy & The Rocketts (Wendy Stapleton) just to name a few, were omnipotent in the 80's and beyond.

It was during that time that singer/songwriters like Gyan, Margaret Urlich, Wendy Matthews and Tania Bowra emerged. Tania's debut single and album were titled 'Heaven & Earth' and this is the promotional clip of that great track. I was most enamored with Tania, and saw her live a few times, and corresponded briefly with her. Her voice is as textured as a Joan Armatrading, and her writing as polished as a Janis Ian. Tania bounced from label to label, but has continued to record and gig and she is a gifted singer and songwriter. There are some other posts on my channel by her. Australia has punched above its weight in so many arenas, and I am proud to have witnessed that over my lifetime.
