MUNGO JERRY V KELLY MARIE Feels Like I'm In Love MASH UP

Another oddity and the last of my mash up's for now. 'Feels Like I'm In Love' was written by Ray Dorset who was also the lead singer of Mungo Jerry - a British band who scored a MASSIVE hit with 'In The Summertime' back in 1970/71. Mungo Jerry recorded the song in 1977, having intended it for, of all people, Elvis Presley, but his death that year put an end to that idea, and instead a couple of years later it was offered to and recorded by Scottish disco singer Kelly Marie who achieved a #1 British hit with the song in 1980. On this upload, I unearthed this weird mix which is mostly Ray Dorset (seen in this clip in a much later performance) and a bit of Kelly Marie but a lot of the instrumentation used in her track. Kelly Marie is another of my retro obsessions and I have many posts on my channel that bear her name. Kelly has one of the most powerful voices in pop and she largely focused on dance music during her career. I have woven some footage of her clip for 'Feels Like I'm In Love' with Ray's performance.

'Feels Like I'm In Love' was the career high point for Kelly Marie - a decade after Ray Dorset and Mungo Jerry made their initial splash with 'In The Summertime'. Ray's songs have been covered many many times and Kelly's version alone sold more than 750,000 copies in Britain alone in one year, so fate stepping in and having this great Scottish disco artist make the song her own was a great outcome. Mungo Jerry were far from one hit wonders, achieving some 8 hit singles in 4 years in England, and 50 years on, are still recording.
