I hate the music John Paul Young

Nothing could be further from the truth! I love the music, as I suspect JPY did - racking up a dozen or so hits mostly in the 1970's. He became a regular performer and co-host on 'Countdown' and the litany of copycat music video and performance shows that popped up. Mostly written and produced by Harry Vanda & George Young, formerly of The Easybeats, the run of hits brought John international success, culminating in the Top 10 US chart placing of "Love is in the Air".

"I hate the music" scaled the local Top 10 in the middle of 1976, a year that saw John cement the exposure that his breakthrough hit "Yesterday's Hero" afforded him from 1975. I reckon i saw JPY more than i saw my own father in those years. JPY was a phenomenon - although he was no David Cassidy or Donny Osmond, looks wise, he had hordes of screaming fans, wherever he went. He displayed a larrickin charm, and i think a disbelief how he became an overnight hero in the Aussie pop landscape, keeping him humble and determined - not to be a flash in the pan.

By the early eighties the hits virtually dried up - but his impact was massive, and he is synonymous with the local pop culture of the earlier decade. Enjoy!
