SIMON GALLAHER & JACKIE LOVE My Friend

40 years ago this month, this beautiful duet was released and what a gem it is! Simon Gallaher was in the 1980's the consummate performer - on stage, on television and on vinyl. 'My Friend' was a duet with another fine vocalist Jackie Love, who would after this hit single, raise her profile and win industry awards as an entertainer. Jackie and Simon, as individuals would grace the presence of all the talk shows, variety programs and spectacle events such as grand finals and openings. There are few pictures of Simon Gallaher and fewer of Jackie Love, but I could not go past this great song which I absolutely adored at the time and it was a moderate hit in their homeland of Australia towards the end of 1982 - peaking at #27 nationally; spending more than 6 months in the chart, well into 1983.

I love the power yet sensitivity of Simon's voice and it is perfectly complemented by Jackie's. This post prompted me to do a series of duet clips and so for the next week or two, I will share some excellent vocal performances by some of the greats, and some of the lesser known gems of the retro era; before coming back to one of the very best duets ever!!! Winner of an Oscar and a Grammy, that collaboration helped define what contemporary music could do: bring unique voices together, either in unison or in parts, but when they merge - it is just magical.
