THE VERSION OF MY JAMAICAN MOM SOME WON'T LIKE || TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT?

Wah gwaan! First things first - thank you for 30 thousand subscribers ☺️ looks like we built a small LITJAMFAM crew! It’s been a while since we went down to see Avri’s mummy Georgia. Last time we saw her, she came to Simas’ parents’ house summer party but it was time to pay her a visit. We drove down as usual, we took some shots of our New York drive Harlem River Drive on the FDR Drive from Manhattan to Brooklyn via the Brooklyn Bridge. NYC traffic has definitely picked back up since the outbreak!

As Avri asked, Georgia made her some Jamaican saltfish and dumplings with green boiled bananas and since Simas doesn’t care much for that, she made him banana fritters and bacon. We, unfortunately, did not have ackee or festivals. Everything is done by hand! Georgia is the type of true Caribbean mother who likes to take pride in her labor. She thinks if you don’t work hard, you won’t feel accomplished so she skips most of the blenders, mixers and other modern-day technologies to make Jamaican food the traditional way, just the way her mother and family used to do it. She also made us a bucket of cornmeal porridge to go!

My Jamaican mom Georgia even tried to thank everyone for 30k subscribers, in her heavy Jamaican accent 😅 This is comedy at its best, because she usually refuses to acknowledge the LITJAMFAM crew. Thank you to everyone for joining our multicultural, interracial family, with a little influence from all over the world, particularly the Caribbean, Europe and the US.

As the excitement and Jamaican patois were flying around, some Jamaican unpleasant words slipped out of Georgia’s mouth. We usually try to remind her to keep the conversations moderated but she couldn’t help it this time. Remember, most of the language is not directed at anyone so there should be no reason to take offense. This is the authentic version of Avri’s mom that some won't like or can't handle, take it or leave it. This is real life, people use a lot of different language all the time.

We still try to visit both the Lithuanian and the Jamaican sides of the family as much as possible, traffic or not. We thankfully don’t usually need to pass through the Bronx anymore. However, sometimes when we drive through NYC, we have to drive through Queens, LaGuardia airport and JFK airport. That’s a much scenic route than going down the East side, seeing Lower Manhattan, Long Island City, Williamsburg, the Brooklyn skyline, Roosevelt Island, taking either the Manhattan bridge or the Brooklyn bridge and traveling down the BQE to the Belt parkway. You can see some really pretty sights of the Statue of Liberty, the Verrazano bridge, Coney Island and Staten Island! When we go to New Jersey, the traffic is much heavier now when we try to pass over the George Washington Bridge but it’s not so bad once we get on the NJ Turnpike.
