RETURNING TO LITHUANIA FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 10 YEARS || MY WIFE FINALLY MEETS MY GRANDMOTHER

LABAS LITJAMFAM! It was finally time for Simas to return to Lithuania for the first time in 10 years! Can you believe it? At the same time, Avri finally got to meet Simas' grandmother for the first time, as well as his cousin, aunt, baby cousins, and the rest of the Lithuanians that were waiting for us.

We are officially in Lithuania, just days after visiting Jamaica. January is usually a really miserable time, but we HAD to go and visit everyone. We flew from Newark airport in New Jersey to Copenhagen, then transferred to the next flight to Vilnius. At Vilnius, Simas' cousin Dovile was waiting with her family! We couldn't wait to see her, her husband and especially her little ones, Jonas and Rusne. We were greeted by cold weather (although it's warm by Lithuanian standards!)... but the warmth of everyone was such a good feeling. We met with Mociute (grandma) and Simas' aunt Jurga the next day at Dovile's house. Grandma made her signature strawberry cake that she would always make for Simas' birthday since he was baby... and yes, Simas is the oldest grandchild. There is a lot of Lithuanian language conversation here, but even if you don't speak it, you can just see the happiness and feel the love here! We got all 4 generations under one roof, a complete matriarch of a family! Lol... but we ended up going out to the city, with Mociute providing all the information like a true guide of Vilnius. She knows every church, mosque and synagogue, every corner and attraction of Old Town (Senamiestis). Grandma and Avri spoke a mixed Lithuanian-English dialect of their own, but it worked! It's almost like we invented our own pidgin-creole version of Lithuanian and English.

It just so happens that we got this video on Lithuania's Independence Day which is February 16th! The Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania happened on Feb 16, 1918 and it's the first of two official independence days that we have.
