WAH GWAAN LITJAM MASSIVE!
Since we are visiting Avri’s humble beginnings in Portland, Jamaica, we needed to also try some local cuisine. Avri’s dad just happens to be a professional chef, known on Port Antonio streets as Chef Glen, Soupi or Chickenback. Avri’s dad has been dying to have Simas try his homemade a Jamaican food. This is Jamaican dad cooking to the fullest! Chef Glen is of course a local celebrity in Likkle Portie, as the locals call it in Port Antonio, Jamaica.
Today, he made us some traditional Jamaican food: curry chicken with roasted breadfruit for Simas (chickenback only!) and corn pork with roasted breadfruit for his lovely daughter Avri. Oh, and some sweet plantains and homemade sorrel. This was true yard style, with a proper tablecloth set up in his yard and a beautiful presentation. We enjoyed the food, sulking in Jamaican sunshine and listening to country sounds in the background: roosters, wind, palm leaves and an overall comfortable and calm experience, minus a few occasional bugs or mosquitos. We are blessed to not have all of our parents that know how to cook in their each unique style, but Avri’s father is the only one that has had true professional training in being a chef when he worked on cruise line ships in the past. Come enjoy a day in paradise with us over some proper Jamaican yard food!

There is nothing like some real yard-style curry chicken and breadfruit, especially chickenback!
