What is the difference between a Narcissist and someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)

What is the difference between a Narcissist and someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)?
Many people believe the term "narcissist" and narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are one in the same. The truth is that being a narcissist and having NPD are quite different. A narcissist is someone who is high in narcissistic personality traits. I go over each trait in this video. A person with NPD has a mental health diagnosis, which they find their life severely impacted via life (occupational and social dysfunction) and personal distress due to narcissistic traits. Much of the time, a narcissist does not find any issues with their behavior. The tendency to blame others, lack of empathy, and inability to take the perspective of other people makes it hard for a narcissist to realize their problem behaviors. This is often reinforced through enabling and glamorizing certain narcissistic traits in society.
The Traits of a Narcissist Discussed:
Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
Is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
Requires excessive admiration
Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes
Believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
