Rotating Plank (Core + Shoulder Stability & Strength)
Side Planks and Front Planks are common core stability exercises that develop an attribute called "static core stability", which is important for keeping the low back strong and healthy.
Once you're able to hold these basic exercises for about a minute or so, it's more beneficial to progress to more challenging core stability exercises and develop other attributes rather than try to break a world record in how long you can hold a plank.
Today's technique is called the Rotating Plank and while it looks like a simple combination of the Side and Front Plank, the key is in the TRANSITION where you're moving from side to front to side, which develops an attribute called "dynamic core stability", which is your ability to maintain a neutral spine while other body parts are moving.
By performing the Rotating Plank properly, the posterior deltoids and external rotators (infraspinatus, teres minor) are trained, building strength and control in these important shoulder muscles.
