There are MANY exercises you can use to help strengthen and protect the shoulder joint and surrounding musculature but nothing works as good as proprioception exercises. Proprioception is a fancy word for 'body awareness' for various parts of the body.
Another way of putting it is having a strong sense or connection from your brain to parts of your body while in motion. This video focuses on multiple proprioception exercises using different surfaces, different planes of motion, body weight only or using dumbbells or bands for added resistance.
