Hand Tool Woodworking | Faux Dovetail Spline

This frame was built almost entirely with hand tools, using hand saws and planes to mill the walnut, a plow plane for the groove for the glass and the rabbet for the back panel, a custom 45 degree shooting board for the mitered joints, and a hand saw to cut the dovetail angled splines. The splines are poplar and are planed to thickness by hand, as the width must be precise to within a few thousands of an inch to get a good glue joint. The front is glass 3/32" thick, the back is plexiglass. The back panel is held on by screws so it can be removed and the inside of the frame cleaned out periodically.
