Tim Farron Beats Norman Lamb To Become Lib Dem Leader- Who On Earth Is He?

Congratulations to Tim Farron, who has beaten his closest rival, Norman Lamb in the Liberal Democrat Leadership race. Farron won 56% of the vote to Lamb's 44%. Farron, a Lancashire boy born and bred, was born in Preston and is aged only 45. After joining the party aged only 16, Farron has since jumped up the ladder and is now the one trying to bring the Lib Dems back into the mainstream, after a crushing election defeat of 2015.

It was May 7th 2015, when the Liberal Democrats lost all but 8 of their seats. Before this, the Lib Dems had been sitting pretty at around 65 MPs and were partaking in government. How times change. Tim Farron has a lot to do if he wants to turn around the luck of the whole party.

Tim Farron, aged 45 has been elected as leader of the liberal democrats.
Farron beat rival Norman Lamb to the position, gaining 56 percent of the vote to Lamb’s 44.
Farron was born in Preston, Lancashire and is widely regarded as a left wing leader.
With the Lib dems retaining only 8 seats in the previous election of 2015, it seems Tim Farron has got a tough job on his hands.
Farron isn’t the most popular with other Lib Dems either, with Paddy Ashdown describing his judgement as ‘not his strong suit’ and Vince Cable saying of him ‘I suspect he would not be seen as a very credible leader, at least now.’
For Farron, his job is to make the Lib Dems electable again, a task seemingly daunting and very difficult, if you factor in that one word ‘tution fees’
